  • Supermarkets
  • Wintersport shops
  • Natural ice rink
  • Commercial toboggan run
  • Therme Amadè spa

See our Accommodation page for more information and pictures.

We’re based in the Ski Amadé, one of Europe’s biggest ski areas. The Amadé lift pass offers over 860km of piste and is made up of World Cup resorts such as Zauchensee, Schladming and Flachau together with some other traditional mountain resorts offering some truly breathtaking skiing. Whilst Austria is renowned for it’s love of racing, freestyle skiing has definitely made it’s mark and we’re lucky enough to have the world class Absolout Park on our doorstep.

WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I BE DOING?

Austria is recognised as a world leader in all things skiing and it should be no surprise that Austrian instruction qualifications are globally recognised.

After years of being affiliated with various Austrian ski federations, we believe that the Salzburger skilehrerverband offers the most comprehensive course available today. SBSSV offers an intensive 10-day course that you will complete in the final days of your season and after passing you will be qualified as an Anwärter ski instructor (the Austrian equivalent of a BASI L1&2).

Once the course and exams are over, should you pass, you will be a fully certified instructor with the possibility of working anywhere in the world! Former course members have worked in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada as well as throughout Europe.

WHO TRAINS OUR STUDENTS?

All course training will be undertaken by Staatlich qualified instructors.
In Austria, the top snowsports qualificaton is ‘Staatlicher’ and in co-operation with our Austrian ski school partner, we guarantee that all of our students will enjoy top quality training from day 1. Our trainers have worked in France, Italy, Switzerland and of course Austria; stints in both New Zealand and Australia are common too offering you unique insight into snowsports downunder!

HOW DOES THE COURSE WORK?

The pre-gap year course is split into three modules and helpfully runs alongside school holidays to give you the chance to travel to us without having to compromise on your studies during your final years. This course is designed to not only help your skiing and ensure you qualify as a ski instructor, but also prepare you for a full ski season so handy tips on food shopping, cooking and even basic laundry are on offer!
Module One – Pre Christmas
A short flight from the U.K. will see you touching down in snowy Salzburg. Upon arrival, you, along with your team members, will be whisked down to resort in private transfers and shown to your self-catered accommodation. After an easy check-in, your course will begin with a visit to the ski shop in order to get kitted up. Once that is taken care of, a quick visit to the supermarket to get you stocked up is on the cards and then back home for a little cooking intro!
Your first day on the mountain will allow you to get your ski legs back whilst giving us the opportunity to consider your skiing abilities; don’t worry about anything at this stage, just listen up, try your best and enjoy!
The next ten days or so will be made up of ski training in the morning and ski instructor shadowing in the afternoon. By the time you go home for Christmas you’re skiing will have shown a marked improvement and your understanding of ski instruction will be pretty good too.

Module Two – February Break

After returning to us for the second time, the focus of your course changes somewhat. This module sees you accommodated with one of our schools in a three-star hotel on a half-board basis allowing you to see firsthand what a group requires from a holiday and hear directly what matters most to them. Armed with this information, you can continue shadowing your ‘partner-instructor’ all the while preparing for your first time leading a group. During this period, there will also be some intensive ski training building on the successful first module.

Module Three – Easter break
Your final visit to Austria will see you back at your first apartment; a visit to the shops to stock up and you’ll be back in the cooking groove before you know it!
This final module will see you complete some more training for your ski instructor exams and coupled with the chance to lead a group – under the supervision of your ‘partner-instructor’ – you couldn’t be more prepared for your ski instructor course to begin.
During the second week of the holidays, you’ll start the ski instructor course and by the time you fly home, you should do so as a fully qualified Austrian Ski Instructor.
